Ride Your Own Popularity: Amazon's "It's on Prime"

When we want a new service noticed, we build new advertising. But if you can ride something people are already obsessed with inside your own house, you borrow that heat without paying to acquire an audience. Amazon made a plain thing — delivery — look appealing by having it crash into the world of its own hit dramas. Here is the structure of multiplying assets you already own.

What happened

From 29 June to 13 September 2026, Amazon ran the latest instalment of its global campaign “It’s on Prime” in the US and Canada, produced by its in-house creative team.

The vehicles were its own Prime Video hits, Reacher and The Boys. A Prime delivery driver was made to intrude into the world of the drama itself, appearing in the middle of an action sequence to hand over exactly what was needed — a massage gun, for instance. It ran across TV, social, audio and digital, timed to the World Cup and to new seasons of both series.

Why it worked

The usual move is to make a new spot saying delivery is fast and convenient. But speed and convenience are dull shown on their own. Spec descriptions do not stick.

What Amazon did was intrude the service it wanted to sell (delivery) into a different popular asset it already owned (the drama), breaking the context deliberately. Viewers are already emotionally invested in that world. Amazon simply borrowed that investment.

The surprise of a delivery driver appearing inside an immersive world produces laughter and conversation. And because it rides the heat of existing fans, enormous contact was generated without acquiring a new audience. The moment plain “delivery” was loaded into a beloved context, it turned into something appealing.

How a smaller company can use this

“We don’t have a hit drama.” No — but every company has some asset people are already absorbed in.

Your flagship product, the social post that always gets watched, the demonstration or event where people gather. Ask whether the thing you want to sell next can be dissolved into that existing heat.

▷ How we would use it

Slip an announcement for a new service or a job opening into your best-selling product’s video, breaking the context on purpose. In the gaps of a demonstration or event where people gather, show the recruitment message or another product naturally. Before building a new touchpoint from zero, ride the place your customers are already absorbed in. Borrowing existing heat is always faster than generating attention from nothing.

In short

Amazon rode its own popularity with its own other service. Even a plain value turns appealing when loaded into a beloved context. Multiply the assets you already hold — look here before building anything new.

At ASTER we break down more than 100 notable campaigns to their structure and translate them into your industry. What could ride the heat you already have? Let’s take stock together.
