Lufthansa turned cabin etiquette arguments into clothes

Airline advertising can only ever talk about routes, price and seats.

Campaign about manners and you are lecturing people, which they hate.

So Lufthansa chose not to give an answer at all.

What happened

In August 2026 Lufthansa launched a limited apparel line.

It is called the Travel Etiquette Collection.

The subject is the unwritten rules everyone who flies has an opinion about.

The battle for the armrest. Reclining your seat. Standing up the second the plane lands.

Each one became a short line of copy across seven pieces, from hoodies to caps.

Nowhere does the brand say which side is right.

It simply puts the tiny negotiations between strangers in a confined space on display.

The pieces are not for sale. They are given away through social channels and influencers only.

Why it worked

An argument lasts longer when nobody settles it.

How a smaller company can use this

Every industry has unwritten rules only the people on the floor know.

Saying them out loud causes friction, so officially nobody mentions them.

Put those into an object without picking a side.

The key is not to instruct.

The moment you write please do this, it becomes a lecture and nobody takes one.

Make it wearable and the person receiving it gets to hold an opinion too.

In recruitment this lands hardest of all.

A company that knows the in jokes looks like a company that knows the work.

In short

Lufthansa gave up the right to judge.

The more universally people hold an opinion, the less a brand should declare one.

Make it wearable and the empathy does the distribution for you.

At ASTER we break down over a hundred talked about campaigns to their structure and translate them into customer acquisition and hiring for your business. What is the in joke nobody in your industry says out loud? Let us dig it up together.

(We have structural breakdowns and a case collection ready. Please get in touch.)
